Choose your team’s address
A custom domain gives the team a shared address identity. Register it under the intended owner and purchase the Microsoft 365 licences you need separately. Before publicising the address, decide who receives email and who administers the tenant. Keep the domain renewal details alongside the people responsible for the email service.
Configure your tenant’s own values
Add the domain through the administration centre and follow ownership verification. The setup process supplies DNS records for the selected services. Copy their names, types and values into the authoritative DNS zone. Mail delivery settings can be tenant-specific, so do not reuse another company’s destination or an illustrative value from a tutorial.
Plan the email change
When moving from another provider, prepare users and data before changing incoming delivery. Review email authentication guidance and external systems that send using your domain. Test a new message, a reply and the devices used by the team. Retain a copy of the previous settings until the transition has been checked.
From name to account
- Search for the name and check availability.
- Choose one or three years and complete the registrant details.
- Review payment and wait for registration confirmation in your account.
A search does not reserve the name. If an order needs review, its status appears in your account and support can help.
