Who should hold a business .es domain?

Choose the holder before ordering

Before buying a business domain, agree which person or organisation will be its holder. Do not simply use the details of whoever happens to complete the form. An agency can build the website without becoming the domain holder. Record the decision alongside the project scope, responsibilities and approval process before placing the registration order.

Check that the name and identification details belong to the chosen holder and meet the extension’s requirements. Do not invent information to finish the form quickly. If a business is still being established, resolve who can correctly hold the name now and how any later change would be handled. Ask support before submitting conflicting information.

Account access and holding are different

Being able to sign in to a control panel does not by itself establish who is recorded as the domain holder. Review the registration details and retain its confirmation. Also establish who receives renewal notices and who controls account access. Those responsibilities can become split between people without the rest of the project noticing.

Use a contact address the business can maintain. Recovery becomes harder if the account depends on someone who later leaves the project. Do not send passwords through support tickets or place them in a website contract. Arrange a secure handover process with the people administering the services, including a way to verify that access works.

Ask for a verifiable project handover

Request a list covering the domain, registrar, DNS provider, website host and email provider. Identify the administrator and support route for each service. A project can use different companies at every layer. Replacing an agency does not automatically require moving the registration, changing every nameserver or rebuilding the email service on the same day.

Check required access and upcoming renewal dates with the agency. Keep connection instructions and a copy of the DNS records. Prepare a registrar transfer separately if one is needed. If the recorded holder must change, follow the applicable procedure for that operation. Do not treat a provider transfer and a holder change as interchangeable actions.

Keep details and access current

Review responsibilities whenever the business or its contractors change. Confirm notices reach a monitored address and that you can check the domain’s status. Useful checkpoints include the period before renewal and the completion of an agency handover. Do not wait for an outage to discover who has the information and authority to act.

ESDomain lets you contact support from your account and identify the affected domain. Explain whether you need to review a detail, recover access or prepare a transfer. Do not attach sensitive documents to a general enquiry unless requested through the appropriate process. Clear references help route each request to the person authorised to handle it.
