How to check whether a .es domain is available

A website that does not load may still have a registered domain. Learn how to check availability and recognise registration confirmation.

Start with the exact name

Type the name you want without https, a page path or an email address. Check its spelling and extension before searching. A result for example.com does not establish whether example.es is available. If comparing several candidates, write each one exactly as you would use it on business cards, messages and project documents.

ESDomain lets you search for a name and choose an extension. The result describes the availability checked at that point, but it does not reserve the name. Also review registrant requirements and whether the advertised offer covers a standard registration. Together, those checks help you assess the actual address you intend to purchase.

An empty website is not proof

A registered domain may have no published website. It might still support email, display a parking page or have a connection problem. Opening the address in a browser and seeing an error is therefore insufficient evidence that you can register it. Use a registration availability check for the exact name and extension instead.

A page advertising a domain for sale also describes a different situation from an ordinary new registration. Its current holder may be offering an existing asset on separate terms. Establish which operation you are considering before sharing registrant details or making a payment. Do not assume the normal introductory registration price applies to that sale.

What to do when it is taken

Build alternatives that still represent your activity. Consider a more specific professional name or an appropriate extension without imitating another business. Changing one letter to resemble a competitor can make your own identity harder to understand. Compare the clarity, spelling and maintenance implications of the candidates before making a replacement choice.

If the alternative uses .nom.es or .org.es, check its eligibility conditions. Extensions do not all admit the same holders. If you already own the name at another provider, investigate transfer rather than trying to register it again. An occupied address you own requires a different next step from a name belonging to somebody else.

Keep the registration confirmation

Availability is checked again before payment and before registration is attempted. It can still change until the registry accepts the application. Keep the order reference and inspect its status in your account. A saved request, a confirmed payment and an active domain represent different stages, so retain the evidence appropriate to each step.

When the domain appears registered in your account, verify the complete address and purchased term. Then prepare DNS, website and email connections. If the order needs review, contact support with its reference. Clarify the existing order before starting another purchase for the same name, so the team can reconcile one understandable transaction history.
